Remembering 9-11-01.
We will not forget!

February 2001

Sick and tired of the howling wind?  The blowing snow?  Ice Storms?  So were we.  Now, we don't mean to rub it in but we took off to LA in mid-January just to get warm.  And it was great, mid-70's, sunshine, girls.  Oh, and of course, LAPD units.

copcar dot com presents:   copcars of the LAPD

Of course, you can't even begin a discussion of LAPD cars without mentioning the 69 Belvedere.  This one is owned by Bell Police Chief Mike Trevis.  It IS an authentic LAPD unit.  Chief Trevis bought it from the LAPD auction for $350 many, many moons ago.  He used it as a daily driver for many years before restoring it.

One thing you can count in with LAPD is tradition.  They haven't changed their look in a long, long time.  Here's one of their 99-00 Fords

1998 Crown Vic behind the Hollenbeck Division.  For as "bad" as LAPD is supposed to be, they were one of only two southern California agencies that openly allowed photographs.  Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Redlands were among those that refused copcar dot com stating "you have to get permission from the city" to photograph their units.  I guess they have some type of stealth secret copcars or something.

1995 Caprice sits in the service area at Hollenbeck

A slick-top Police Interceptor probably from the now defunct CRASH gang unit.  CRASH apparently is coming back under new guidelines after being disassembled following the Rampart scandal. Incidentally, the case against the Rampart CRASH cops is falling apart now that the star witness, a bad cop, has begun confessing he's lied about the others.

Hollenbeck's people mover is a Chevy van

The 95 Caprices seemed to be the oldest units in the parking lot.  Before these units were bought, the department was driving cars that were absolutely falling apart, many 10 years old or older.
