February 2003
We haven't seen a new Dragnet episode since the 1960s when it was pulled due to
bad ratings after only 3 short seasons. Jack Webb went on with other films
and TV shows, including the hits "Adam 12" and
"Emergency". Webb died in 1982 at the age of 62, leaving behind
a film legacy of "not-so-well-known" movies and botched TV
pilots. But one thing is certain, Webb, the only civilian to ever receive
a full-police-honors funeral from the LAPD, loved cops. Thanks to a sharp
copcar dot com regular who thought to look through the old boxes sitting around
his department's storage, we have uncovered a 1970s vehicle pursuit
training video narrated by Jack Webb. In honor of this month's debut of
the new, remade "Dragnet", we bring you stills from that video.

showing how dangerous emergency driving can be.

County Sheriff. The segment for this car taught officers to
continually talk out what they observe during emergency driving.

| What kind of pursuit training video
doesn't have track cars? These two retired 71 Polara's were put through
the ringer on the skid pad and in mock chases. They were from the
Phillips-Horwege Emergency Driving School.
