February 2005
Though it can not be
scientifically proven in most parts of the country today, summer really
is right around the corner. Car shows, wax jobs (car wax, too),
parades. You name it, the car collectors will soon be facing
it. So in honor of the upcoming hot summer months, The Committee

dot com presents: Good Humor
Men of Charlotte
|
Okay, don't these guys look like
they are pedaling ice cream treats? Well, they aren't.
This is Charlotte, NC, paddy wagon of the day. 1960 Dodge panel.
|
|
Just look at those crisp
white hats. And clean, square-jawed coppers. And what
city police department would DARE put "Queen City" on their
doors in this day and age? 1961 Ford.
|
|
Do these guys look happy?
|
|
Charlotte apparently was
fairly diverse in their fleet. Just about everything under the sun
made up the parking lot... including the Dry Cleaner's truck.
|
But Good Humor Men can
also be found driving little Pontiac station wagons.
|
How about a little CSI:
Charlotte? This VW bus was a state of the art Crime Scene unit
in the Good Humor fleet.
|
But, yes, Charlotte also
had some more traditional patrol cars. 1962 Ford
|
So it also turns out
that the Good Humor days weren't a long tradition. A look inside
this 54 Ford shows no sign of the white hats that turned out to be
nothing but a short fad in later years..
