April 2000

copcar dot com presents the most powerful, durable, comfortable vehicle in the history of police cars. A famous vehicle that goes back nearly 50 years and has been produced by the millions. Fighting its way through parked cars from meter to meter, enforcing the law of the land in our urban jungles for truth, justice and the American way, it's:

The Postal Jeep

Take this jungle rat, the "SCAMP" from Wichita, KS, Police Department. This proud soldier complete with flags and checkers bored its way through downtown Wichita as a Special Congested Area Motorized Patrol. Sadly, it laid its life down in 1975 when it jumped out in front of a runaway 18-wheeler.

This Dallas PD Postal Jeep was considered one of the fastest PJ's in the country. Equipped with a 440 4bbl Mopar engine, the Michigan Police Tests concluded it could go meter-to-meter in just under 8 seconds

Even Bomb Squads used the PJ, such as the LAPD's version. A laterally pitched seat and wide door space gave officers ample ability to use a mirror to look under every car in the city without stopping.

Oshkosh, WI, Police striped their PJ with a denim blue stripe, b' gosh.

Milwaukee, WI, Police purchased this souped up version of the PJ so that they could outrun brewery workers weaving down the street. Equipped with a fuel injected 8.4 liter engine, it gets out of the way of everything.

A Federal Grand Jury found that this PJ was specially equipped with a flashing amber beacon so that parking violators would think it was just a street sweeper coming up the street. The entire police dept. in Sheboygan, WI, was charged in the indictment and ended up having to perform 200 hours of community service in a cheese factory

APRIL FOOLS!

Not a single copcar geek came close. BUT! copcar dot com does have a consolation prize for those who entered the contest. All of you can attend a free workshop on how to photograph copcars, to be held in Dallas, TX, April 16th. Check with The Committee for details.
