May 2005

For the monthly meeting at Stella's Dude Ranch Inn in Hays, KS the boys on the committee decided to celebrate Cinco de Mayo a little early.  This consisted of two orders of Macho Nachos from Room Service, case of Corona Light and a Cheech and Chong movie marathon on the in-room pay per view.  When they didn't show at the Trough 'n Brew I went up to their room and found this:
I really need a new committee.

A fellow board member recently submitted these pictures.  What the heck- let's make them the cars of the month

copcar dot com presents:     Trece De Mayo (13th of May, a little late)

Recently, a Chicago newspaper article stated that in an effort to better protect both its citizens and police officers, new Chicago police cars will be equipped with video cameras to record actions during traffic stops and similar situations.  The article also stated that these cameras would be installed in the 125 new Chevrolet Impalas and Ford SUVs that are to be placed into service in 2005.

After a 10 year absence, the first new CPD squad car by Chevrolet was recently discovered as it was being prepped for service.  The Impala features an LED lightbar, composite rear seats with prisoner restraints, new MDTs and additional LED lighting in the windows and grille.

Also marked and ready for patrol duty is the first SSP package 2005 Ford Expedition.  Both vehicles are officially only prototypes, but will soon be on patrol for evaluation before the remainder of the new vehicles arrive.  The CPD has already put several hundred 2005 Ford PIs on duty this year, marking the first time since 1987 that the department purchased two different makes of vehicle in the same year.

Also being prepped for duty is the department's new "war wagon" or heavy weapons vehicle used by the HBT (Hostage/Barricade/Terrorist) team. This massive truck will replace the team's 19yr old 1986 Ford F250 paddy wagon.

The HBT truck is very similar to the Marine Unit's new underwater search and rescue recovery rig placed into service last month.
