November 2000
As the cold
winter rains turn to ice storms and snow, it's time to put another log
on the old fire and sit back and watch movies. This month, The
Committee elected to go back into the archives of our Special Ops
Division and break out some old spy camera shots taken with a hidden
camcorder on a movie set in New York.

Spy Cam Operator Special Report:
These are from the making of the film
"Bronx Tale", a 1993 film by Robert DeNiro that takes place
in the Bronx of the 1960's. A young kid witnesses a mob wiseguy kill
someone and grows up with the admiration of them for his silence. The
movie was filmed in the Bronx until it got too dangerous; in Queens
until they got tired of the problems the moviemaking caused; and
finally in Brooklyn where we thought it was cool for them to make us
into the Bronx of 25 years ago. The cars are supposed to be New York
City cars obviously. Four cop cars were used- a 64 Chevy, a late 60's
Plymouth, a 66 Dodge Coronet and an "unmarked" 67 or 68
Pontiac. There were also 2 fire trucks and 1 Cadillac ambulance
(something we never used in New York). I saw the movie when it came
out and you barely saw any of the vehicles in the film so this is
somewhat interesting. I only wish I had been at the Queens filming
which took place in daylight- they had a 59 Ford and a 60 Chevy
replica.
