November 2002

Alrighty kids, Christmas is just around the corner.  It's time to get your list ready for Santa.     Since your Santa probably hasn't a clue on how to find an old police package car, we've decided to give you a little primer on how they can shop for that perfect clone car that you can easily turn into an old police car.

Good Clone:  This would be the ultimate if your Santa put this under the tree this year.  This 65 Polara reeks that "police car smell" but, she's just a base Polara.  It wouldn't take much to turn this into an award winning clone cop car.

Bad Clone:  Now, you can avoid embarrassing moments for your Santa by explaining up front why this car wouldn't look good under the tree.  "Yes, honey, I know I said I wanted a 65 Polara but"....  Explain that whole two-door, hard-top thing BEFORE Santa goes shopping.

Good Clone:  Now here's something that you could tell your Santa that it would be a gift that gives all year long.  This 74 Monaco is everybody's dream.  Actually, this one was ordered with every single police option EXCEPT the DK41 VIN.  Mention to your Santa that there's a diamond ring in it for her if she can find this car.

Bad Clone:  Okay, it's that whole two-door, hard-top thing again.  Leave this 74 Monaco for some Jake and Elwood impersonation band to turn into a bad rendition of the original Bluesmobile.

Good Clone:  Once again, point to this car and tell your Santa to repeat after you:  "Good Clone".  Though the owner of this unrestored (looks great in the picture but it needed a LOT of work) 62 Savoy was looking for his own Santa with a price tag of $7K.

Bad Clone:  Okay, this 62 Savoy does have that two-door thing going on but you could actually get away with that.  This is really going to confuse Santa so what you want to teach her is that when she hears the name "Max Wedge", she should run very, very fast.  Apparently Max was the Eddie Bauer of the 60s and his mag-wheeled cars always carry a price tag of over $20K.  Santa will understand that explanation VERY easily.

Good Clone:  Now, this is really going to upset Santa because  this is a good clone, four-door, bottom of the barrel Chevy Belair.   But you've got to teach her that not all four-door cars are "clonable".

Bad Clone:  You see, Santa has to know about differences in models like Belair and Impala, differences between four-door hard tops and four-door sedans.  Yada yada yada.  You have a lot of teaching to do, better get to it.  Or better yet, convince Santa to give you carte blanche with the check book.

Bad, BAD Clone:  And one more thing.  Tell Santa that just because she happens to come across an already completed cop car doesn't mean she will be doing you any favors.  This 1961 Dart leads the top of the hit parade with its light bar from the 80's, spoke wheels and deep tinted windows.  You'd be better off starting from the ground-up

Happy Turkey, Y'all
