December 2001
Well, The
Committee traveled all the way to Lyman, South Carolina to photograph
the cop cars in that town for a special Christmas presentation but then
the big cheese at copcar dot com goes out and buys an old 74 CHP Monaco.
So in true brown nose fashion, The Committee changed their plans and
bring you:
copcar
dot com presents: Eat
your heart out, Elwood

The desert in the Indio
area was the site of a major sandstorm ca 1974. Here a Traffic
Officer makes his way down the sand covered highway

Sand blasted Monaco

Sand, sand everywhere

Turn it around, road
closed. What a mess this sand made. The Indio area is where
the Monaco purchased by Dave Arnold was stationed at. Heck, one of
these may very well be it. He's hoping it's not the sand blasted
one.

Two Traffic Officers on a
stop near Valley View on the Santa Ana Freeway found themselves
Monaco-less after a pick-up traveling at high speed crashed into their
unit. The officers sustained only minor injuries. Another
officer was killed in nearly the same spot in 1974, having been struck
by a car while on a traffic stop.

A view from inside the
Monaco shows the shotgun mount, goose neck lamp, notepad and the
radio-delete plate that serves as a switch bank.

A rare view of a Monaco
minus a hubcap, something you typically wouldn't see on a CHP unit.
High water pants, chicken
legs and mutton chop sideburns were the focus here but this is a good
view down the driver's side of the Monaco. Note the lack of the
package tray mounted red/amber lights. Since this car is
equipped with a light bar, it would not have the rear lights.

Two Traffic Officers were
monitoring speeds on a winding roadway when they heard tires squealing.
One of them grabbed his camera and shot this photo as this little
roadster comes into view, spots the officers and locks it up.

Moments later, the Chippy
heads to the driver's side after the roadster bounces off his Monaco.
Too bad there's not a shot of the driver being extricated by a ballpoint
pen up the nose. The lead Monaco has a CHP shop-made lightbar.
And
Have
A Very
Merry
Christmas.
Santa's
been
good
this
year!
